Ghana picks 23 players for AFCON qualifiers

Xinhua, March 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghana Black Stars head coach Avram Grant has picked 23 players for this month's home-and-away 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Mozambique.

The Black Stars will play the Mambas of Mozambique at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 24, before traveling to Maputo for the second leg three days later.

The deputy skipper of the side, Andre Ayew, has been left out of the squad due to injury, while goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey returns to the team after a long absence.

Mubarak Wakaso has made a timely recovery from his right thigh injury to make the squad alongside Shanghai SIPG and Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan.

Goalkeeper Richard Ofori of Wa All Stars and Samuel Tetteh who plays for West African Football Academy were the only local-based players named in the squad.

Ghana sits on top of Group H with six points. Endi
