Bangladesh plans reform in heist-hit central bank's operating systems

The Bangladeshi government is planning reform in the heist-hit central bank's operating systems.

"There is a need for reform in the central bank's different operating systems," Bangladeshi Finance Minister AMA Muhith told journalists after a program in Dhaka Wednesday.

He did not elaborate on his government's reform plans but said, "We've appointed new governor who would look into the issues after returning to home on March 18 from the United States."

Bangladesh's account at the U.S. Federal Reserve had been hacked and some 101 million U.S. dollars were stolen on Feb. 5 by a racket of hackers.

This money was transferred to Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Some 20 million U.S. dollars of the total stolen money has so far been recovered, sources close to central bank of Bangladesh had earlier said. Endit
