Georgian police detain two related to sex-tape scandal

Georgian police have arrested two suspects related to an ongoing sex-tape scandal that rocked the western Asian country, the Chief Prosecutor's Office said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Zurab Jamalashvili, former officer of the Constitutional Security Department and lawyer Irakli Pkhaladze, have been detained on charge of "illegal recording citizens' private lives and illegal distribution of such materials."

The two detainees pleaded not guilty, local media IPN news reported, adding that more investigations were underway by the Georgian law enforcement department.

Georgian society was rocked by a series of leaked sex videos of several politicians including an opposition figure and also a TV journalist posted on Youtube last week. The video's releaser called on the subjects of the tapes to be quit their jobs before the end of March, otherwise more videos would be disseminated to public.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has condemned the sex tapes as "blackmailing the society" and vowed to bring the "dark forces" behind the case to justice. Endi
