Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is in talks with leaders of the country's biggest parliamentary factions over the formation of a new government, a presidential spokesman said Monday.
"The main aim of the president's meetings with political leaders is to accelerate the end of the political crisis," Svyatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Facebook.
Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko and Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovy are among the candidates for the new prime minister, said Tsegolko.
Poroshenko is ready to work with any candidate offered by the ruling coalition, who has sufficient support in Parliament, said the spokesman.
Last month, the government led by Arseny Yatsenyuk survived a no-confidence vote in Parliament after Poroshenko asked the prime minister to resign.
In accordance with Ukrainian law, only one confidence motion can be put to vote during the parliamentary session, which means that the current Cabinet cannot be disbanded by Parliament at least until September.
The most probable legal options under which the current government could be dissolved are early parliamentary elections or a voluntary resignation of Yatsenyuk.
The Ukrainian Constitution stipulates that the resignation of the prime minister results in the resignation of the entire Cabinet. Endi
