The following are news highlights in Zambia's leading media outlets on Monday.

-- Zambia's President Edgar Lungu directed public workers who have applied to contest for political office in the August 11 general elections to immediately disengage from the public service.

The Zambian leader said the directive is intended to protect the integrity and impartiality of the public service as it implements government programs before, during and after the elections.

Presidential spokesperson Amos Chanda said the directive covers all public service workers employed directly in the public service and those parastatals. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia is targeting to vaccinate six million indigenous chickens against New Castle Disease in comparison to 3. 5 million vaccinated last year.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Greyford Monde said the vaccination of the chickens is one way in which the government could help to reduce incidences of disease affecting chickens. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia's President Edgar Lungu has congratulated the head of the country's soccer governing body for being among 10 Africans in the soccer Hall of Fame.
