Pacific Islands Forum congratulates Kiribati's newly-elected president

Dame Meg Taylor, secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum's secretariat has written to congratulate Kiribati's newly-elected President Taneti Maamau, the Suva-based secretariat said Monday.

"This is a historic day for the region, as it is indeed for your family, community and the people of Kiribati. As a member of the forum family, let me assure you that the Pacific Islands Forum through the secretariat, is ready to provide any support your government may need," Taylor said in the congratulatory message.

Maamau was sworn in last Friday and succeeded 12 years of presidency by Anote Tong, becoming the fifth president of Kiribati. Enditem
