Geraint Thomas came out Sunday the third Briton to win Paris-Nice race after taking the race leader's yellow jersey off Australian Michael Matthews only the day before.
The 29-year-old Welshman follows Tom Simpson (1967) and Bradley Wiggins (2012) as British winners of the event initiated since 1933.
A two-time Olympic champion on the track, Thomas serves Team Sky on the road.
He finished the seven-stage prestigious race in 27 hours 26 minutes and 40 seconds, holding off two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador by just four seconds.
BMC's Australian rider Richie Porte was the third on overall standings on a deficit of 12 seconds to his former Team Sky teammate Thomas.
It was Lotto's Belgian rider Tim Wellens who won the 7th and final stage of the race, a 134km ride around Nice, with a time of 3 hours 16 minutes and 9 seconds.
Thomas, who was dropped in the ascent to the Col d'Eze but pulled himself together in the descent to the Promenade des Anglais at the end, finished the sprint in the chasing pack five seconds adrift.
Orica GreenEdge rider Michael Matthews had been leading the general classification all alone before losing it to Thomas on Saturday. The Australian eventually finished way down in the 53rd. Endit
