Polish duo closer to Rio beach volleyball berth

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Poland's Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak edged closer to a berth for Rio Olympics on Sunday by winning the Rio Grand Slam beach volleyball tournament.

The pair outclassed Brazil's Pedro Solberg and Evandro Goncalves 2-0 by 21-19 and 23-21 at Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach.

The competition also served as a test event for the Olympic Games in August.

"We are still young and learning with each match," Losiak said. "Today we were more focused. It was our day to shine."

The Rio Grand Slam is the third of five Olympic beach volleyball qualifying tournaments in Brazil.

The final two events will be staged in the cities of Vitoria on March 15 to 20 and Fortaleza on April 26 to May 1. Endit
