Xinhua, March 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Thousands of families in Derbyshire, a county in the East Midlands of England, have been asked not to drink their water as higher than normal levels of chlorine was detected.

Water company Severn Trent Water issued a warning to its customers on Friday that higher than normal levels of chlorine at one of its service reservoirs in Derbyshire was found.

Approximately 3,700 properties in this area remain affected, said Severn Trent Water on Saturday, adding that the company is working hard to get water supplies back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We're making good progress with flushing the system and will come back with an update for all our customers by lunchtime," it said.

The company has supplied bottled water for affected residents. Endit
