Fire destroys dozens of shops in Ghanaian city

Xinhua, March 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

A fire has engulfed parts of the central market in the Ghanaian city of Kumasi, destroying more than 70 shops, local media reported Friday.

Reports said the fire has been put out, adding many businesswomen lost properties.

The fire occurred early Friday morning, starting in an area of the market that just suffered a similar incident in January, which damaged about 100 shops.

Located some 270 km north of the capital Accra, Kumasi is among the main metropolitan areas of Ghana.

On Thursday, another fire hit a shop and some apartments in Kotobabi, a suburb of Accra, but has been brought under control, according to the Ghana National Fire Service. Endit
