Chinese presence at Panama trade fair impressive, lauded

Xinhua, March 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Over 100 Chinese companies are attending the ongoing XXIV Expocomer International Trade Fair here, in a testimony of China's strengthening economic bond with Latin America.

Addressing the fair's opening ceremony on Wednesday, Wang Weihua, the permanent representative of China's Office of Commercial Development in Panama, said the high Chinese turnout marked the country's confidence in the region.

At the Expocomer last year, Chinese companies closed business deals worth around 60 million U.S. dollars and the figure for this year is expected to remain about the same, Wang said.

Oyden Ortega, president of the Panama Association for Friendship with China, said China's presence shows the importance the country attaches to Panama, as a large trading partner and the second-largest user of the Panama Canal.

"The important thing is for Panama to also capitalize on commercial opportunities in China," he added.

The Expocomer, which runs through Saturday, brings together 700 companies from 35 countries to present their products, including home appliances, computers, cell phones and textiles. Endi
