Cuba's Domadores to face off Turkey's Conquerors in boxing World Series

Xinhua, March 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cuba's Domadores will face Turkey's Conquerors here on Friday in the continuation of the boxing World Series with five fighters from each team.

The fighters from both teams will cross gloves in the Sports City's coliseum where the local team will try to sweep the floor. Domadores lost 2-3 two weeks ago to Ukraine's Otamans in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

The Turkish team "knows how to do things right and they fight every battle to the end," therefore in order to win, the Cuban side will have to focus on getting the five victories on the basis of a "job well done" rather than trying for a knockout, according to Domadores trainer, Alberto Puig.

The Cuban team includes the 75kg world champion Arlen Lopez and the two-time world runner up in the 64kg category Yasnier Toledo. The two of them will face Evren Tibukoglu and Yakup Sener respectively.

Santiago Amador (46kg) will also be in the ring for Cuba along with Frank Sanchez (91kg). Both boxers have won fights in the current tournament and they will face Tolgahan Ozturk and Seyda Keser respectively.

The 2014 youth world champion in the 56kg category, Javier Ibanez, completes Cuba's teamsheet. This will be the youngster's first fight at this level and he will face Nuretin Ovat.

"It will be my first official five-round fight, but I have prepared well and I feel ready to do a good job," said Ibanez, who also won gold medal in the Nanjing Youth Olympics in 2014.

Cuba's Domadores are currently ranked in second place in Group A with seven points while Ukraine's Otamans are in first place with 9 points. The Turkish side are in third place along with China's Dragons, both with four points. Endit
