Juras Pozela, a member of parliament from Lithuanian social democratic party, was appointed as the new health minister of Lithuania on Thursday.
The corresponding decree was signed by Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite.
The head of state said she expected new approach towards health care system management, competence and ability to act independently and transparently from the newly appointed minister.
His candidacy was submitted to the president by the country's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.
Grybauskaite also noted that Pozela will head the ministry during short and difficult pre-election period, however, at this moment "it is necessary to lay strong foundations for reforms in priority areas", the president was quoted in a statement.
Pozela took over the Ministry of Health after Rimante Salaseviciute, his predecessor, resigned due to corruption scandal.
Pozela, 33, acquired Master's Degree in Communication and Information Science at Vilnius University.
He was elected to the Seimas, Lithuania's Parliament, in 2012 and has been working in the parliamentary committee on health affairs.
Pozela will assume his new office following an oath at the Seimas. He has become the third minister of health in the 16th government of Lithuania, headed by Butkevicius. Endit
