An exhibition titled "EU-China Story: Photography and Calligraphy" was inaugurated Wednesday at the European Parliament (EP), currently meeting for its plenary session here.
The exhibition featured the work of the photographer Steve Zhao and calligrapher Xu Bai.
Zhao's work is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the town-twinning between the cities of Venice and Suzho. The photography exhibition centers on the striking similarities between the urban morphologies of the two cities, as well as their long-lasting fraternal relationship.
The calligraphy exhibition of contemporary grand master Bai Xu, titled "Chasing the dream between waters and clouds," translates the deep imaginary of the artists through overwhelming black to faded-gray characters.
Addressing the event, head of the Chinese mission to the EU Ambassador Yang Yanyi underlined that "China and the European Union form not only a large market, but also two forces promoting peace. Art permits to set the foundations of a relationship based on understand and permits solid and effective communication on which we can deepen our cooperation."
Yang added more expositions would be organized in the future.
"The exhibition provides a good opportunity for us to get better understanding of the art of Chinese calligraphy and photography and shape European people's attitudes toward China," Member of European Parliament (MEP) Istvan Ujhelyi, a member of the delegation for relations between the Parliament and China, said during the inauguration.
"This exhibition reminds us also of just how much we can achieve if we reach across borders, and learn to see ourselves in each other, and confront our shared challenges with shared resolve," Ujhelyi added. Endit
