Over 500 children fall sick in India after taking deworming tablets

Over 500 school children in India's eastern state of West Bengal Wednesday fell sick after being administered deworming medicine, India's official broadcaster - All India Radio (AIR) said.

According to officials, The children were immediately hospitalized after they complained of dizziness and vomiting.

The tablets were administered in the twin districts of South 24-Parganas and Purba Medinipur, south of Kolkata city, the capital of West Bengal.

"The children took ill today after they were administered anti-worm medicines this morning at their schools by the officials from health department," a senior health official said.

Special medical teams were rushed by health department to various schools in the affected areas.

The state officials have ordered an inquiry into the medication and put an immediate halt on administration of the medicine. Endit
