The World Championships of Snowboarding (WCS) 2016 entered its first practice day in Yabuli ski resort in China on Wednesday, attracting over 200 athletes from 23 countries and regions.
Wednesday and Thursday are practice days and the first event, men's quals of Big Air, will start on Friday, featuring title favourites Torgeir Bergrem from Norway and Max Parrot.
WCS 2016, the pinnacle event organized by TTR Pro Snowboarding and World Snowboard Federation, crowns the world champions in the disciplines Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air.
The world's men and women's top 150 are eligible to compete in all disciplines for the six-figure prize pool of 500,000 US dollars.
It is a high calibre celebration of the sport. Every four years, the WCS descends upon a new exciting location. Yabuli resort, the largest winter sports resort in China, hosts the 2016 edition of WCS.
Shaun White will be in Halfpipe on March 13 and other famous players will also appear in this game, such as Chloe Kim and Louri Podladtchikov (current defending world champion in the men's Halfpipe). China also fielded seven skiers, including Liu Jiayu and Zhang Yiwei.
"This game is the highest level of snowboarding contest which China has ever held after the 2022 Olympic Winter Games was awarded to Beijing, together with Zhangjiakou," said Jiang Yueqing, the head of Heilongjiang winter sports management center. Enditem
