Tokyo shares end lower on firmer yen, weak oil prices

Tokyo shares ended the trading Wednesday lower on the yen's appreciation and the decline in oil prices.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 140.95 points, or 0.84 percent, from Tuesday at 16,642.20.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 15.39 points, or 1.14 percent, at 1,332.33.

Decliners were led by marine transport, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,280.6 billion yen (around 20.26 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
