Czech police and customs officers on Tuesday held an exercise along the Czech border with Austria focused on the arrival of a large number of migrants in the country.
Held at the border crossings in Dolni Dvoriste, South Bohemia and Mikulov, South Moravia and with the involvement of 200 police and 20 customs officers, the exercise aims to check the steps to be taken if a large number of migrants arrive, including activities in registration places created on the state border, according to Czech Police Presidium spokesman Jozef Bocan.
The police focused on checks of refugees and the functioning of registration points. They had to interview refugees, check their personal documents and decide on their transfer to detention or other facilities according to their interest in obtaining asylum in the Czech Republic. The customs officers carried out random checks of people and good in cars.
Czech Police President Tomas Tuhy said that the police have stood the test very well. The result of the exercise showed that Czech police need mobile devices for taking fingerprints, which can compare foreigners' fingerprints with the existing databases on the spot. Another problem was the interconnection of databases with the terminals that police have used at registration points.
Two similar exercises are planned in other parts of the country in April and September 2016. Enditem
