(Sports) Pakistan teams in India to review security arrangement for India-Pakistan cricket match

Xinhua, March 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

A security team from Pakistan arrived in India Monday to review security arrangement for a India-pakistan cricket match later this month, said local media.

The team went through the Attari border post of India and headed for Dharamsala in the northwest state of Himachal Pradesh, days before the two countries' cricketers will play a much waited International Cricket Council T20 World Cup on March 19, said Indo-Asian News Service.

The team, comprising the director of the Federal Investigation Agency and a Pakistan Cricket Board member, will be joined by a Pakistani High Commission official in New Delhi.

The security concerns for the Pakistan cricket team arose after Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said the state government could not provide security to the Pakistani cricket team.

Some army veterans have expressed opposition to Pakistani players on Indian soil in the event.

India has over the past few months witnessed a number of protests by Hindu radicals against Pakistani artists and former diplomats when the latter came for public functions in Delhi and Mumbai. Enditem
