Tokyo stocks close lower as investors take profits after market's solid run

Tokyo stocks ended lower Monday as investors opted to secure profits after the market's rise over the past four days.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 103.46 points, or 0.61 percent, from Friday to close at 16,911.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 13.45 points, or 0.98 percent, to finish at 1,361.90.

Notable decliners by the end of the first trading day of the week comprised insurance, miscellaneous products, and electric power and gas-linked shares.

The day's turnover was 2,172.2 billion yen (19.09 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
