Democrat Bernie Sanders and Republican Ted Cruz on Saturday each notched two victories over presidential front-runners of their parties, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
On the Democratic side, Sanders triumphed handily in the Nebraska caucuses with 25 delegates at stake and Kansas caucuses with 33 delegates at stake, while Clinton won by a landslide in the Louisiana primary, where 51 delegates were up for grabs.
However, even though Sanders won two of the three states which held Democratic contests on Saturday, he still failed to narrow Clinton's massive delegate lead obtained after the Super Tuesday contests.
During the nomination process, Democrats allot their delegates proportionally, and just like the Super Tuesday contests, Clinton's big lead in Louisiana netted her more delegates than narrower wins elsewhere by Sanders.
Clinton entered the contests on Saturday with a substantial edge over Sanders in terms of pledged delegates, with 610 to 411.
Clinton had also established an insurmountable lead over Sanders in terms of unpledged delegates, namely the superdelegates, with 458 to 22.
On the Republican side, the Republican contests turned into a duel between Cruz and Trump, with each candidates scoring two victories respectively.
Cruz won the caucuses in Kansas and Maine, while Trump won the Louisiana primary and the Kentucky caucuses.
While Cruz on Saturday managed to score huge upsets in Kansas and Maine, leading Trump by 24.9 percent and 13.6 percent respectively, he also forced Trump to eke out just narrow wins both in Kentucky and Louisiana. Endi
