China donates sewing machines to Namibia

Xinhua, March 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

China donated 20 sewing machines to the government of Namibia through the gender equality and child welfare ministry Friday in Windhoek.

The sewing machines were handed over to the acting permanent secretary Cornelius Kapenda in the gender ministry by the Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang.

The machines will be distributed to the country's 14 regions to help create employment.

Receiving the donation, Kapenda said most women are disadvantaged and that the donation will help empower them.

"We would like to see some of them empowered and motivating others to work in order to sustain themselves, as well as contribute to the development of the country as a whole," Kapenda said.

He further said although the machines were not enough to be given to every needy women, those who will be lucky to get them must use the machines for the greater good of Namibia.

"I trust that those who are to benefit from this gesture will be just as appreciative as the ministry," Kapenda said. Enditem
