The German Football Association (DFB) on Friday presented a report on the investigation of alleged financial irregularities linked to the World Cup 2006.
The report quoted Christian Duve, a lawyer from Freshfields as saying that no proof for vote-buying had been found. It can not be completely excluded, Duve added. At a press conference held here, the DFB showed evidence of the funds flowing from DFB to FIFA.
The DFB, governing body of association football in Germany, is investigating wether a total of 6.7 million euros(7.38 million U.S. dollars) had been paid to the FIFA Executive Committee to secure votes for the 2006 FIFA World Cup hosting bid. Germany won the bid in the end with 12 to 11 votes over South Africa.
Earlier, the German weekly Der Spiegel reported that Germany was likely to have been awarded the hosting right of the World Cup 2006 with the bribe. The DFB denied that it had found any evidence of irregularities. Endit
