People's Daily stresses role of people's congress in building moderately prosperous society

People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will publish an editorial on Saturday, stressing crucial role of the people's congresses in building a moderately prosperous society.

This year marks an important milestone for China's plans to build a moderately prosperous society by 2020 as it is the first year of the 13th Five-Year Plan and a vital year for reforms. The 12th National People's Congress is to open its fourth annual session on Saturday to scrutinize the plan.

The editorial said the people's congresses should play a bigger role as it is a crucial time to listen to the people's voice, respond to their expectations and pool their strengths.

The newspaper stressed the implementation of the five new development concepts, which are innovation, coordination, green development, opening up and sharing,

The newspaper urged the integration of leadership by the Party, the position of the people as masters of the country and the rule of law.

The people's congresses should make good laws, strengthen supervision on the administrative and judicial departments and build up close contacts with ordinary people, it wrote. Endi
