Israeli military prepares to demolish homes of Palestinian attackers

Israeli soldiers mapped out the homes of three Palestinians who recently carried out attacks against Israelis, a step prior to their demolition, the Israeli army said on Thursday, despite the fact that one of the attackers was turned in by his family.
Joint forces of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli Border police mapped the homes of the three overnight, one located in the village of al-Eizariya near Ma'ale Adumim, east of Jerusalem, and the rest two in Qaryut, a Palestinian village east of Ramallah in the West Bank.
One of the homes belongs to the family of Saadi Ali Abu Ahmad, who used an ax to attack an Israeli security guard in a mall in the settlement of Ma'ale Adumim last week and seriously injured him, the Israeli army said in a statement.
The house will soon be taken down despite the fact that Abu Ahmad's family turned him in to the Israeli authorities two days after the attack. He is currently under the custody of Israeli authorities.
The other two homes belong to two 17-year-old Palestinian attackers, Labib Azzam and Mohammed Zaghlwan in Qaryut.
The two were shot and killed by Israeli forces after attacking and stabbing a man in Eli, a Jewish settlement, near Ramallah and lightly wounding him early Wednesday.
Home demolitions is a practice long-used by the Israeli security establishment in order to deter Palestinians from carrying out attacks in the future. The military took down the homes of 12 Palestinian attackers amid the ongoing wave of violence, sparked off in October.
Human rights groups charge the method is unfair as it serves as collective punishment. Security officials doubted the effectiveness of the technique security-wise in a report ten years ago.
Several families have appealed against the demolition orders, which surged amid the ongoing wave of violence which started in October. However, the Supreme Court had mostly rejected these appeals and allowed the state to go ahead with the demolitions. Endit
