Ghana, Turkey sign MOU on sports

Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghana and Turkey have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to help develop the West African country's indoor sports.

The MOU was signed during Turkish President Recep Erdogan's two-day official visit to Ghana.

The agreement will place more emphasis on basketball, handball, volleyball and weightlifting, the four notable sports which have long been neglected, local media quoted Ghana's Youth and Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije as saying.

According to him, Ghana could win more awards at the international level were these disciplines well developed.

Turkey has also agreed to host Ghana's athletes who will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in a pre-games camping in their country, he said. Endit
