The police in northeast Nigeria's Bauchi have said intelligence reports at its disposal indicated that some undesirable elements plan to abduct under-age children for recruitment for terrorist activities.
Abdulrahman Ahmed, the state police spokesman disclosed this in a statement made available to Xinhua on Thursday.
The group specifically planned to abduct school children going to or returning from schools, he added.
The group has perfected the plan to abduct school children to recruit and indoctrinate them for terrorist activities, Ahmed said, while urging members of the general public to be security conscious of their physical and social environment.
This information came barely four days after three schoolgirls were abducted by unknown gunmen late Monday in their school premises in Lagos, Nigeria's coastal city.
Abduction is common in Nigeria. Over 300 foreigners and ransom-able citizens have been seized in the Niger Delta since 2006. Almost all have been released unharmed after paying a ransom.
Boko Haram, a Nigeria-based terror group, was responsible for the kidnap of more than 200 school girls of Chibok Town in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State in April 2014.
The Chibok girls are yet to be found, although the Nigerian government vowed to rescue them alive. Endit
