Bremen's Rouven Schroeder joins Mainz as sporting director

Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Werder Bremen's director of professional soccer Rouven Schroeder replaces outgoing Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel, both Bundesliga sides confirmed on Wednesday.

After a long back and forth Bremen and Mainz agreed on the transfer of Rouven Schroeder, who will replace designated Schalke manager Christian Heidel in the summer.

"We are delighted that Rouven Schroeder received his clearance to complete the transfer officially. He was our preferred candidate," Mainz' president Harald Strutz said.

Schroeder joined Bremen in the season 2014-2015 to become the director of professional soccer and scouting. The 40-year-old will learn the ropes at Mainz in the coming weeks.

"Together with the board and in close coordination with Christian Heidel we will ensure a smooth transition," Strutz added.

Mainz, who sit on the fifth place, visit front-runners Bayern Munich at the 24th round in Bundesliga on Wednesday. Endit
