5.8-magnitude aftershock hits West Sumatrra, Indonesia

A shallow aftershock, measuring 5.8 magnitude, jolted West Sumatra in Indonesia on Thursday morning, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.

The quake jolted at 07:10 a.m. Jakarta time (0010GMT) with epicenter at 598 km southwest Mentawai islands and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Previously another aftershock with 5.2 magnitude also hit the area at 23:08 p.m. Jakarta time on Wednesday (1608GMT) with epicenter at 440 km southwest the islands and with the depth at 198 km under sea bed, the official said. Endit
