Real Madrid beat Levante 3-1

Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

A much changed Real Madrid side due to injuries and suspensions won 3-1 away to bottom of the table Levante on Wednesday night.

Suspensions to Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal, plus injuries to Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Marcelo, forced coach Zinedine Zidane into changes and in the first half at least the youngsters who were given a chance were decisive.

The first half was an even affair until it turned on its head in a five-minute spell after 34 minutes. First of all Lucas Vazquez drew a foul in the Levante penalty area and Cristiano Ronaldo slotted home the resulting penalty.

Levante goalkeeper Diego Marino then turned the ball into his own net after good work by teenage striker, Borja Mayoral, but before Real Madrid had time to think the job was done, Deyverson pulled a goal back for Levante.

The second half saw Madrid hold on, but the result was sealed when Isco netted the third goal in injury time.

Wednesday's other games saw Sevilla virtually end Eibar's dreams of European football next season with a 1-0 win thanks to a Fernando Llorente goal.

Athletic Club Bilbao's veteran striker Aritz Aduriz scored a hat-trick to reach the 30 goals for the season mark as the Basque side hammered Deportivo la Coruna 4-1.

Iker Muniain opened the scoring for Athletic with his second goal in two games, while Oriol Riera netted a consolation for Deportivo, who have not win in 2016.

A dreadful error from Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni, who palmed a cross into his own goal gave Valencia a lifeline as they came from behind to win 2-1.

Duje Cop had put Malaga in front and they looked to be cruising before Kameni's howled leveled the scores and Dimitri Cheryshev scored the winning goal to give Gary Neville his third league win as Valencia boss three minutes after the break.

Meanwhile Villarreal held on for a 0-0 draw away to Celta Vigo, a result which will go a long way towards securing fourth place and a place in next season's Champions League.

Tuesday night saw Atletico Madrid cruise to a 3-0 win at home to Real Sociedad to move within five points of FC Barcelona, who play away to Rayo Vallecano on Thursday, while Las Palmas took a big step towards safety by hammering a hapless Getafe 4-0.

Getafe have lost their last 7 games and failed to score in the last six to leave coach Fran Escriba on the verge of losing his job. Endit
