Tourist police established in SW China province

Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Southwest China's Yunnan Province has installed tourist police in popular destinations including Kunming, Lijiang and Xishuangbanna, local authorities announced Wednesday.

A tourist police detachment, consisting of 30 policemen, was set up on Tuesday in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture under the prefecture's public security bureau, bringing the number of tourist police detachments in Yunnan to six.

Zhang Jin, a tourist police officer at the Xishuangbanna detachment, said that they mainly deal with cases related to the protection of tourists and their welfare while maintaining security.

The tourist police will also cooperate with local police to improve the management of tourists and inspection of hotels, Zhang said.

China's first tourist police detachment was installed in tropical resort city of Sanya, Hainan Province, in October 2015. Endi
