Head coach of the Zambian national soccer team George Lwandamina has named a provisional squad of 33 players that will face Congo Brazzaville for the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the country's soccer governing body said on Tuesday.
The Chipolopolo (The Copper Bullets) will face the Red Devils on March 23 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola city and four days later travel to Brazzaville for the return match.
The list has 10 professionals including Collins Mbesuma, the current top scorer in the South African premier league and 2015 Player of the Year Winstone Kalengo who plays for Congo Brazzaville side AC Leopards.
The coach has also included most local players that represented the country at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda where the team was booted out in the quarter finals, including 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winning captain Christopher Katongo.
Nkweto Tembwe, the association's spokesperson said local players are expected to go into camp on Saturday, March 6.
"This is a serious assignment and the team needs more time to prepare adequately," he said. Endit
