Jordan foils terrorist attack, killing 7 IS militants

The Jordan Intelligence Department said it foiled a plot by Islamic State (IS) to carry out terrorist attacks on civil and military targets in Jordan, killing seven militants, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Seven militants wearing explosive belts and firing at the security forces were killed and 13 others were arrested in the city of Irbid near borders with Syria, the intelligence department said.
It added that one security officer was killed and five others were injured during operation. Two civilians were also injured in the exchange of fire, according to the report.
The intelligence said it managed to locate the group which hid in one of the buildings in Irbid governorate and the terrorists started firing at the security force.
The department said a number of weapons, automatic guns, ammunition and explosives were seized in possession of the terrorists.
Prime Minister Abdulla Ensour said Jordan will continue to stand firm in the fight against terrorist groups and Jordanians will stand united in the face of terrorism. Endit
