Costa Rican driver Hernandez to compete in European championship

Costa Rican racing driver Mauricio Hernandez confirmed on Tuesday he will participate for the second consecutive year in the SEAT Leon Eurocup, one of the most important touring car racing championships in Europe.

The 20-year-old will race in the Libolo Bull Racing team from Portugal where experienced Portuguese driver, Lourenco Beirao da Veiga, will be his teammate.

The Costa Rican will kick off his races on April 23 and 24 in Estoril, Portugal. In 2015, Hernandez finished in third place on this track as a member of Italian team Target Competition.

Hernandez said in a press release that he feels very motivated, adding that he has already begun training for the competition with his new team.

"It is exciting to debut with a Portuguese team on their home track. I hope to get a good result for them and for all of Costa Rica. It is always an honor to represent my country abroad," said Hernandez.

"I aim to take advantage of all the experience gained in the 2015 season and I will give 100 percent every race," added the young driver.

Thr SEAT Leon Eurocup championship will take place over seven European tracks from April 23 to Oct. 9, 2016.

The tracks will be Estoril in Portugal, Silverstone in the United Kingdom, Paul Ricard in France, Mugello in Italy, Red Bull Ring in Austria, Nurburgring in Germany and Barcelona in Spain.

The Costa Rican has been competing since he was seven-year-old where he started off with karting and became champion seven times in his country. Endit
