Gunmen abduct three schoolgirls in Nigeria's Lagos State

Xinhua, March 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

The police in Nigeria's coastal city of Lagos on Tuesday said they have launched a search party for three schoolgirls abducted by unknown gunmen late Monday in their school premises.

Police spokeswoman in Lagos Dolapo Badmus said detectives immediately swung into action when news broke out that the girls studying at the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu axis of the province were held by gunmen who forced their way into the school.

The Lagos State police chief Fatai Owoseni further led a team of policemen into the nearby bushes and settlements throughout the night in search of the missing girls, according to the police spokeswoman.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the kidnap.

Boko Haram, a Nigeria-based terror group which has spread its tentacles to the Lake Chad Basin, was responsible for the kidnap of more than 200 school girls of Chibok Town in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State in April 2014.

The Chibok girls are yet to be found, although the Nigerian government vowed to rescue them alive. Endit
