Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday arrived in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire's capital, which is his first stop on a four-nation African tour.
The Turkish president said the tour will enable his country to deepen its "strategic partnership" with Africa and develop closer working ties with member states of the Economic Community of West African States.
In a joint press conference on Monday, Erdogan and his Cote d'Ivoire counterpart Alassane Ouattara expressed their desire to triple the volume of trade between the two countries.
"We shall consolidate our legal framework to develop our business," Ouattara noted.
A Turkey-Cote d'Ivoire economic forum was scheduled to take place on Monday in Abidjan, in the presence of leaders and economic operators from both countries.
Turkish investments in Cote d'Ivoire rose from 150 million U.S. dollars in 2008 to 390 million dollars in 2015, official statistics show.
In March 2015, Turkey and Cote d'Ivoire signed about ten cooperation agreements during a visit to Ankara and Istanbul by Ouattara.
Commercial exchanges between Turkey and the entire African continent rose to 23.4 billion dollars in 2014.
After Cote d'Ivoire, Erdogan is scheduled to visit Ghana, Nigeria and Guinea. Enditem
