UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday said here that the cessation of hostilities reached by the Syrian government and opposition forces was basically holding.

"As of now, I can tell you that, by and large, the cessation of hostilities is holding, even though we have experienced some incidents," Ban told reporters during a press conference, adding that the ceasefire task force and regional and international powers were now trying to make sure this cessation of hostilities could continue.

"It is my sincere hope that with this cessation of hostilities continuing, first of all we can continue to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance to many people, at least 400,000 people who are living in besieged areas," he noted. Endit
