Xinhua, February 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

China beat Vietnam 2-0 through Gu Yasha and Zhang Rui in an Asian qualifier for the women's Olympic soccer tournament in Rio De Janeiro here on Monday.

During the first time, the Chinese team dominated in the field but failed to score from many a chances, which head coach Bruno Bini explained that his players still need time to adjust as it was their opening game.

Ma Xiaoxu and Wang Shuang were replaced by Lou Jiahui and Gu Yasha after the half break, and the Chinese girls summoned up more efforts in attacks. In the 53rd minute, China was awarded a penalty kick, which was later denied by the Vietnamese goalie.

In the 57th minute, Gu Yasha scored the opener to break the deadlock for the Chinese team, and Zhang Rui converted from the spot five minutes later to secure the victory for China.

"Our opening game was not so good," said Bini at the post-game briefing, "But what's important is that we won and got three points. We are not very strong when we face weak teams, and that's one of our features. In the next few days, we will face very strong teams, and we will be better." Endit
