Palestinian killed in alleged stabbing attack against Israelis

Xinhua, February 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian man was shot and killed after trying to stab Israeli soldiers in the West Bank on Friday afternoon, the Israeli army said.

The knife-wielding assailant tried to attack at a security crossing near Ramallah, close to the Jewish settlement of Beit El, but ended being shot and killed by soldiers. No Israelis were injured in the incident.

In early Friday morning an Israeli security guard was stabbed and seriously injured in a mall in Ma'ale Adumim, a Jewish settlement east of Jerusalem, Israeli police said.

The 47-year-old security guard is currently in serious conditions. Israeli security forces are still looking for the perpetrator who managed to flee the scene.

Following the incident, all Palestinian workers have been denied access to Jewish settlements until Sunday, police said.

The ongoing unrest, which started in October, 2015, has claimed the lives of 28 Israelis and more than 170 Palestinians.

Israel charges that the violence is fueled by the Palestinian Authority's incitement, whereas the Palestinians insists that it's the result of nearly 50 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza Strip, where they wish to establish a Palestinian state. Endit
