South China drugs gang busted

Xinhua, February 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police in south China's Guangdong Province have arrested 60 alleged members of a gang smuggling drugs to South East Asia.

Nearly 3.5 tonnes of methamphetamine and 1.21 tonnes of half-finished meth were seized in five police actions between December and February, the Guangdong public security department said Friday.

The gang owned a meth factory and planned to use boats to smuggle the drugs, according to police. In a raid earlier this month, they found two tonnes of meth hidden in a fishing vessel moored in the port in Shanwei City.

Police from at least seven cities, marine authorities and border troops have been assigned to the case. They said the gang's tactfulness and rough conditions in the port had made the mission challenging.

They are continuing to investigate. Endi
