India sends aid to cyclone-hit Fiji

Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

India is sending at least 40 tons of medicines, food and tents through an Indian Air Force plane to cyclone-hit Fiji, said Press Trust of India Thursday.

A C17 transport aircraft is bringing the goods to the South Pacific island nation, which has a large Indian community, from Delhi and the southern city of Chennai, said report said.

Cyclone-devastated Fiji is appealing for more foreign aid after Cyclone Winston hit the country last weekend, killing over 40.

India earlier announced a one million U.S. dollar donation to Fiji's cyclone affected population.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the island nation last year as part of his plan to link up economic ties with the South Pacific region. Endit
