The UN Security Council on Wednesday welcomed the U.S.-Russian agreement on partial ceasefire in Syria as "an important step toward alleviating" the suffering of the Syrian people, who have been through dire humanitarian situation over the past five years.
Ambassador Rafael Ramirez Carreno of Venezuela, who holds the rotating council presidency for this month, told reporters after a closed council meeting here that the 15 council members reiterate their call for "an immediate, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access" to the Syrian people in need, particularly those in the besieged areas in Syria. BUDAPEST -- Hungary supports a politically and economically strong Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin here on Wednesday.
Szijjarto called for all parties to the Minsk Agreement to do everything in their power to see that it was fulfilled. That, he said, was the prerequisite for lifting sanctions against Russia, a policy that was not only hurting the target but other countries as well. (Hungary-Ukraine-FM)

ABUJA -- A supply vessel with a Russian aboard was hijacked by pirates off the Coast of Bonny Island, located in the southern edge of Nigeria's oil rich state of Rivers, the Nigerian navy said on Wednesday.
The unidentified Russian was kidnapped together with a fellow crew member, a Nigerian, by the pirates who seized their MV BOURBON vessel early Wednesday, said an official statement by the Nigerian navy headquarters in Abuja. (Russia-Society)

RAMALLAH -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called again on Wednesday for holding an international conference to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to achieve peace in the Middle East.
