Chickens help farmers lifted above poverty line

chinagate.cn by Ai Yang, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Now, the Huzhu Autonomous County Rural Commercial Bank has set up financial service records for 68 poverty-stricken households, provided credit ratings for 41 households, issued self-managed revolving loans through the “bless farmer” cards and lent a total of 900 thousand yuan.

Yang and 234 other villagers from Maying Village were lifted above the poverty line, indeed becoming rich, and the village, once labeled as a national poverty-stricken village, now has a new method to help its villagers make their fortune.

First Secretary Wang Yanqing of Maying Village smiled and told the reporter, as the bank increased the credit amount for poverty-stricken households, it’s estimated the 22 households this year could each gain an extra 600 yuan of income, and next year the whole village is expected to receive total loans of 3.01 million yuan.

According to Lin Jianhua, Director of the Xining Branch, People’s Bank of China, by November 30, Qinghai Province has introduced finely-tuned poverty relief to 708 villages, set up financial service records for 44,000 poverty-stricken households, rated 12,000 of them as credited users, and issued a total of 165 million yuan of small loans to 6,000 poverty-stricken households. Credit has played a positive and encouraging role, and ensured financial support was precisely given to the right people.

The “specialized cooperative plus poverty-stricken household plus credit support” model has provided a new means for poverty-stricken farmers in mountainous areas to become rich. With support of specialized cooperatives and credit support of financial institutions, poverty-stricken households have been able to solve the problems of capital shortage and lack of technical knowledge, and increase their income in a relatively short time, establish a foundation for themselves to get rid of poverty and become better off.

With financial support, the rapid development of specialized cooperatives has provided means for farmers to increase their income, and effectively solved the problem of funding shortage for poverty-stricken credited users who have willingness for self-development. (Zhang Yun)
