Chickens help farmers lifted above poverty line

It snowed substantially on December 11. The roads in Maying Village of Songduo Tibetan Township in the autonomous county of Huzhu were submerged so it was difficult to travel.
When the traffic can flow smoothly, it takes an hour to drive to the village; however, in a blizzard, we drove for nearly three hours to reach our destination. The road was rough, winding through mountains and valleys; we saw nothing but endless barren slopes, mountains and canyons.
As we drove into Maying village, from inside the car we saw many colorful free range chickens roaming freely inside the fences on both sides of the road.
“It’s cold today, come inside and try the hard-boiled eggs. They taste the best when still hot!” Villager Yang Chunxiang welcomed us into his home as soon as we got out of the vehicle. He handed each one of us a hot hard-boiled egg to help us warm up.
“They smell good right? They’re from the free range onion flower chickens, my money makers.”
Why did Yang consider this business in the first place?
