Nepal, India sign agreements for partnership

Nepal and India on Saturday signed a series of agreements in a bid to improve bilateral ties.

The deals were inked at Hyderabad House in Indian capital New Delhi amid the presence of Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

The Nepalese prime minister is currently on a six-day official visit to India beginning on Friday.

The agreements include a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on utilisation of India's assistance for post-quake reconstruction in Nepal, a deal on strengthening road infrastructure in southern plains of Nepal and an accord on rail transport for trading with Bangladesh, among others.

The two countries also jointly inaugurated the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar transmission line. The initial supply of 80 megawatt electricity will be augmented to 200 megawatt by October 2016 and 600 megawatt by December 2017. Endit
