UAE, Russia eye closer parliamentary ties

Xinhua, February 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Russia agreed on Saturday to boost cooperation in various fields, especially in the parliamentary domain, UAE state new agency WAM reported.

The agreement was made at a meeting between Speaker of the UAE advisory parliament Federal National Council (FNC) Amal Abdullah Al-Qubaisi and Deputy Chairmen of the Russian Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov.

During the meeting at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the two sides agreed to establish a parliamentary committee to exchange expertise between the specialised committees of the two parliaments.

Al-Qubaisi praised Russia's stance of supporting the UAE over the three disputed islands in the Persian Gulf, Abu Mosa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, which the Gulf country says are "occupied" by Iran.

On his part, Umakhanov said that Russia looks forward to enhancing relations with the UAE and in particularly with the FNC, pointing out to the multiple and available investment opportunities and potentials of the two countries in various domains. Endit
