U.S. condemns deadly West Bank attack on American citizen

Xinhua, February 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The U.S. State Department on Friday condemned a deadly stabbing attack in West Bank on an off-duty soldier who was also an American citizen.

"There is no justification for terrorism," the State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement.

The incident again underscored the need for all sides to reject violence, and urgently take steps to restore calm, reduce tensions, and bring an immediate end to the violence, Toner said.

Tuvya Weisman, 21, was stabbed to death on Thursday by two Palestinian teenagers in a West Bank supermarket. Toner confirmed Friday that Weisman was an American citizen.

"We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, and stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance," said the statement. Endit
