Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin has submitted his resignation over alleged blocking of corruption investigation against high-ranking officials and interruption of implementation of a justice system reform.
The presidential press office said Friday that Shokin tendered his resignation as requested by President Petro Poroshenko.
"Shokin wrote an official letter of resignation and it has already arrived at the presidential administration," Poroshenko's spokesman Svyatoslav Tsegolko said on Twitter.
Back on Tuesday, the president suggested that Shokin resign due to his low credibility, to which the 63-year-old prosecutor general did not make public responses.
Poroshenko's decision came amid public allegations that Shokin blocked corruption investigations against some high-ranked officials and interrupted implementation of a justice system reform.
Shokin was appointed in February 2015. Endi
