Mobile World Congress in Barcelona expected to attract 95,000 visitors

Xinhua, February 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Mobile World Congress (MWC), set to run between Feb. 22-25 at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, is expected to attract a total of 95,000 visitors.

Around 2,200 companies, including the biggest names in the sector, such as Huawei, Samsung, ZTE and Nokia, will be present at the mobile industry's most important event of the year.

Among the participators are 174 Spanish companies, of which 88 are from the Catalan region.

Spain's Secretary of State for Telecommunications, Victor Calvo-Sotelo, said in the coming week "the eyes of the world will be on Barcelona," expressing hope that the event would give an impulse to the Spanish telecommunications sector.

Meanwhile, Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona, said that the MWC "confirms Barcelona's leadership in the mobile telephone sector."

With hotels fully booked in the city for the duration of the event and with bars, restaurants and taxi's expecting thousands of extra clients over the coming days, the MWC benefits the entire city, the mayor added. Endit
