Afghan security forces detain 3 terrorists in Kabul

Xinhua, February 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The personnel of Afghan National Directorate for Security (NDS), the country's intelligence agency, have captured three terrorists in Kabul, the NDS said on Friday.

"Three weapons facilitators named Malikuddin, Sayyyed Mohammad and Sayyed Fahim of terror groups had been captured in Kabul in a recent NDS special operation," it said in a statement.

Three handguns and huge amount of AK-47 bullets were found after the raid, the statement said, without revealing the exact date of the operation.

The captured men tried to shift the ammunition from eastern Parwan province to the neighboring Nangarhar province.

In addition, a would-be suicide bomber named Atta Mohammed had been arrested by the NDS in surrounding areas of Mehtarlam, capital of eastern Laghman province, according to the statement.

"The captive tried to conduct a suicide attack in a crowded area of the Mehtarlam city. His suicide jacket was defused by engineering team of NDS," it said.

The statement added that the timely arrest of the man has foiled a major terror attack and saved the city, some 90 km east of Kabul from an expected tragedy.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its position during winter in the Central Asian country. Enditem
